Ireland’s Fittest Family star Anna Geary has shared all about the big change of transitioning from one child to two – saying it’s “definitely challenging”, but wonderful seeing how her kids get on with each other.

The former Cork camogie captain welcomed her second child, Evan, alongside her husband Kevin back in January, and shared the news with a sweet photo of her holding her newborn on Instagram. The couple’s other son, Ronan, is now two years old, and Anna said he’s getting along great with his new baby brother.

Anna told RSVP Magazine that becoming a mum-of-two meant having a lot less free time, and is “definitely challenging” but she’s managing well. She said: “A lot of people told me that going from zero to one was harder than going from one to two and now I’m a few months in, I would disagree with that a lot!

“Yes, you have the uncertainty and worry that comes with going from zero to one, you’re doing it for the first time and you’re learning on the job. But when you go from one to two, you have less time and when one is asleep, you’re usually playing with the other, getting their snacks ready, getting them ready for their nap or trying to do a food shop. It’s more of a balancing act, for sure.

“I had a bit more free time while Ronan was sleeping to eat, shower or clean the house. It’s definitely challenging. One of the things that I find really hard, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this, is asking for help. Society nearly deems it to be that you’re somehow failing or don’t have a handle on things if you ask for help, and I think women in general find it hard to ask for help anyway.”

Anna shared that she feels she’s better at asking for help because she knows how important it is for all the relationships in her life. She said: “Whether it’s getting help if I need to go out and exercise, that’s really important because it makes me a better person, which in turn makes me a better mum, wife, daughter and friend.”

While Ronan is a little too young to fully grasp the concept of having a sibling, he has welcomed Evan into the home with open arms, which was a relief for Anna and Kevin.

“It’s wonderful to see Ronan with Evan, he loves being a big brother even though he’s not quite fully understanding it all yet,” the broadcaster said. “He runs in every morning to see him and it’s great that he is so welcoming of him. I’m hoping it will stay this way forever and that they will always get on and be good pals, but that transition, trying to manage that and wondering how Ronan will be with Evan brought a little bit of nervousness.”
