There is much sadness in West Donegal this weekend following the passing of popular postman Richard Perraton.

Richard, 60, passed away in the Donegal Hospice following a period of illness.

Originally from South East England, he moved to Ireland in 1994 and made Donegal his home.  He loved being a postman and took pride in his relationships with his community.

He was looking forward to a new and happy chapter in Dungloe.  He will be forever missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends in Donegal, England and Australia.

He was one of eight full time postal operatives working out of Dungloe Delivery Service Office and his postal colleagues are deeply saddened at his passing. He last worked in Dungloe on February 19th this year before becoming ill.

Colleague Eoin Mc Garvey said his postal staff colleagues are just gutted at his passing following a relatively short period of illness.

“Richard was just the best, a fabulous colleague, a great friend, and an all round nice fella. He enjoyed his job as a postman and he served the Loughanure and outer Dungloe areas so well.

“He always went beyond the call of duty for everyone. As a team of posties we got on so well and Richard always brought a breath of fresh air to the job. We will miss him terribly.”
