Andy Farrell says Ireland’s uncharacteristic errors were the biggest factor in Saturday’s 40-21 defeat to New Zealand in Auckland.
Ireland struggled with the handling and ball retention throughout the opening half, allowing the All Blacks to take control of the contest before the break.
Farrell said his side became “too desperate” at times, while Joe McCarthy and Jimmy O’Brien also admitted Ireland’s execution and communication fell below the required standard.
Despite improvements in the scrum and lineout, Ireland were unable to recover from a first-half performance littered with costly mistakes.
