You’d not have gotten that line if you hadn’t read to paragraph ten of yesterday’s Irish Times report on the increase in inflation in September to almost three per cent. Nor, to be frank, were you likely to understand it unless your written English comprehension was at leaving cert level or beyond. Apparently, “grocery prices have gone up more than prices as a whole” was too simplistic for the editorial team at the IT to countenance.
