West Ham have agreed a £68m (€80m) deal to sell Crysencio Summerville to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
The fee is a sizeable increase on the £39m (€45.7m) reportedly bid by Serie A side Roma, with Manchester United and Aston Villa also understood to have been interested in signing the 24-year-old.
Summerville has three years remaining on his deal at the London Stadium but his departure has appeared likely since the club were relegated from the Premier League in May.
Despite reported interest from United and Villa to keep him in the top flight, Roma are understood to have been closest to securing a deal, though their bid has been substantially bettered by the Saudi side.
It’s understood he will undergo a medical and pending final authorisations is set to sign a long-term deal.
It brings to an end a six-year stay in England for the Netherlands international who initially joined Leeds from Feyenoord in 2020.
He scored 25 times in 89 games at Elland Road before moving to the Hammers after Leeds failed to win promotion in 2024.
He played 31 times and scored five goals last season as West Ham suffered relegation, with his performances earning him a place in his country’s World Cup squad. He scored twice before the team were eliminated by Morocco in the last 32.
Celtic are set to face further pressure from supporters to sign new players after agreeing a deal to sell Daizen Maeda (above) to Ipswich.
Maeda is set to join the Premier League newcomers for £8m (€9.4m), with an additional £2m (€2.3m) depending on Town staying up and his appearances, the Press Association understands.
The 28-year-old was entering the final season of his Celtic contract and will depart after winning five Scottish Premiership titles in five years.
The Japan international netted 33 goals for Celtic in 2024-25 and struck nine goals in the final seven games of last season to help fire the Hoops to the double after a challenging campaign.
Maeda’s departure quickly follows confirmation of Celtic’s failure to hold on to striker Kelechi Iheanacho or secure the return of left-back Marcelo Saracchi following his loan spell from Boca Juniors.
Manager Martin O’Neill had expressed his desire to re-sign both players but had previously admitted Maeda was likely to depart after expressing his desire to play in the English top flight.
Defender Maik Nawrocki also departed for Lens this week, although the Pole spent last season on loan at Hannover 96.
The former Poland Under-21 international only made 18 appearances for Celtic after signing from Legia Warsaw in 2023, and noted “moments and decisions I would have preferred to be handled differently, both on and off the pitch” as he said farewell to Celtic fans on social media.
Celtic have only made one summer signing, former Qarabag striker Camilo Duran, who has netted in both of his pre-season appearances.
They have been linked with a move for Egypt and Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan and 22-year-old Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur but fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the club’s ongoing struggles in the transfer market.
Only about 6,000 Celtic fans attended last weekend’s friendly draw with Middlesbrough at Parkhead and several major supporter organisations have called for major boardroom change since.
The long-established Celtic Supporters’ Association reacted with “increasing alarm” to the transfer inactivity and related comments attributed to chief executive Michael Nicholson, which noted difficulties in dealing with agents and competing with clubs in England’s top two divisions.
The Celtic Trust reiterated calls for Nicholson and finance director Chris McKay to step down and accused the board of again “gambling” on securing Champions League qualification before launching late transfer bids.
The Green Brigade then called on the Celtic board to remove the two executives to avoid further unrest while urging fans to boycott spending on merchandise and friendly tickets.
