‘There have been many tears and many tantrums’

Ireland AM presenter Elaine Crowley has given an update on how she is settling into her new Dublin home.
The Mallow star recently became a homeowner for the first time at age 48 after buying an apartment in the Dublin 8 area – an experience that she has been very honest about. While Elaine says buying a house at her age was “very exciting and very stressful”, she says it is something that she feels very lucky and privileged to have in this climate.
“It has been a long road; it hasn’t been easy. There have been many, many tears and many, many tantrums, and I’m absolutely exhausted, but I’m getting there now.”
When she bought the apartment, which she has described as a ‘fixer-upper’, Elaine said she knew it would need to be renovated, a process that would take anywhere from six months to a year. But after looking at various properties she was often outbid on, she decided to pull the trigger and make the purchase.
“I’m in there, ish, kind of… what am I saying, I only have two rooms done, the kitchen’s in sh**, the bedrooms, not great either, but behind me is nice, the bathroom is lovely, and that’s all I need for the moment,” she told the Irish Independent. “Oh, and I have a bed, a bed is good too!”
Elaine is a friendly face to many who tune in to see the popular presenter on Virgin Media. She also recently opened up about going into early menopause when she was in her 30s, and coming to terms with the grief of not being able to have children. While she is now at peace with her reality, it took her some time to get to that stage, RSVP Live reports.
“I couldn’t have children and that was a grief in itself that I never acknowledged. Going into early menopause I think was something that I never truly came to terms with at all. I never talked about it, because I was so ashamed.
“I could have had [children] younger but… I was never in a relationship in a position to have children.”
