Former Dublin LGFA player Lyndsey Davey and her partner Peter have had a busy summer settling into life at home with the newest addition to their family.
In 2022, at the age of 33, Lyndsey, who had racked up 13 Leinster Senior Championship titles and four National Football League crowns, decided to hang up her boots with her county.
Focusing on life and her career, she has just given birth to her first child and is easing herself into a new role, motherhood – something she says her career has helped her prepare for.

Mia McKenna made quite the entrance on July 2, and mum and dad are just lapping up every bit of her.
Checking in with EVOKE, she said, ‘At 32 weeks she was head down and then 30 by 36 weeks she had gone breech, and then there was no turning her so I ended up needing a section in the end, but it all went so smoothly.’
Keeping fit and healthy during the nine months, she said, ‘I kind of kept training throughout, and it was a smooth pregnancy up until the end. Then she decided to go breech, but yeah, and there was just no chance of turning her.’

Working in the finance department in Croke Park for several years after studying business in DCU, Lyndsey decided to pursue what she really loved.
Working as a firefighter and paramedic at Dublin Airport for over ten years, she said, ‘I love it and it’s where my passion would be more so.’
And little did she know that this change in career would also benefit her in the years to come.

Laughing, she told EVOKE, ‘Ten years of night shifts have definitely helped me prepare for her waking up in the middle of the night for feeding. It’s an element I am not finding too bad because I have been used to doing night shifts for so long.’
‘We’ve been really blessed, and loving every moment of it. Time has gone so quickly that you just want to slow down, just soak up every minute of her when she’s sleeping.’
And as for one of Mia’s first outings, you can nearly guess where they went!

Yes, you probably guessed it, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, to watch the Dublin ladies team take on Kerry in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final.
Suited and booted in her Dublin gear that was gifted to Mia by the team, she was all set.
And while the girls may not have got the result they hoped for, you can be sure that they will have a new mascot ready and waiting to cheer them on next season.
