The SL-40CBT features a switchable moving-magnetic phono preamplifier, so you can connect it directly to a powered speaker setup or a traditional hi-fi system. But instead of a traditional aluminum die-cast chassis, it features minimalist MDF wood construction with a high-quality finish. The brand claims this refined aesthetic is a better fit for contemporary homes. The SL-50C lacks fancy features or a built-in phono preamp, but has been decked out with a high-end Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.
