Finn Harps manager Kevin McHugh has stepped down from the role as first team manager, the club announced on Sunday.
McHugh made the decision after a difficult spell having dropped to the bottom of the First Division, with just one win since 8 May. However, he will now transition into a new position within the club’s structure.
Assistant coaches Tommy Canning and Eamon Curry have also changed roles at the club.
In a statement by the club, Finn Harps said, “as part of the club’s move to full time football, the position of first team manager will become a full time role.
“The club has spoken with Kevin about this change, and with the demands of the full time position not suiting his personal circumstances, it has been mutually agreed that Kevin will move into a role that secures his involvement at the club for the long-term.
“The club acknowledges that this has been an exceptionally difficult season, and that financial constraints beyond the manager’s control limited the resources available to him and the squad.
“The board wishes to place on record its appreciation for the professionalism Kevin has shown in those circumstances.”
The Letterkenny man played 265 times for the club across two stints, scoring 162 goals, before taking on the managerial role last year having previously worked with the club’s academy.
In his first season, Finn Harps finished eighth in the First Division, before another rocky campaign this year.
