2024 Olympic gold medallist Rhys McClenaghan missed out on a third Commonwealth Games medal in succession, after a sixth place finish in the final of the men’s pommel horse on Monday afternoon.
The 24-year-old entered the games off the back of winning silver in 2022 and gold in 2018, but failed to add to his or Northern Ireland’s tally this time around.
McClenaghan could only manage a score of 13.000 from his routine, with an execution score of 7.800 and a difficulty rating of 5.200.
Canada’s Jordan Carroll took the gold with a score of 15.000, with two Scottish gymnasts on the podium with Reuben Ward and Cameron Lynn sharing silver and bronze respectively.
Later today, Daniel Wiffen races in the men’s 800 metre final in swimming as he goes in search of a first Commonwealth gold.
