Alice McWilliam (Team Phoenix) may have taken the race leader’s jersey on stage 2 at Rás na mBan, only to lose it the next day, but the British rider bounced back in style during Sunday morning’s stage 5 TT at Kilkenny Castle.
Her victory in the TT, by three seconds over her nearest rival, moved her back into the race leader’s magenta jersey ahead of the criterium stage this afternoon in Kilkenny City.
McWilliam won the short TT by 3.48 seconds from Lotty Dawson (Brother UK-OnForm), with Irish rider Grace Reynolds (Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team) taking 3rd, at 4.9 seconds; a great ride.
Also in the top 10 today was Irish junior Aliyah Rafferty. The Team Ireland rider is missing school this week to ride on the national team against the elites and, aged 17 years, she has ridden very well. She was 7th today at 9.67 seconds.
McWilliam now leads the race overall by four seconds from Noemie Abgrall (Ladynamips RVC) and Noor Dekker (WV Breda Women), who are 2nd and 3rd on the same time.
Best of the Irish is Reynolds, in 7th at 22 seconds, with Rafferty 10th and 23 seconds. Esther Wong (Team Ireland) and Linda Kelly (Cycling Ireland Women’s Commission) are 11th and 12th, at 26 and 27 seconds respectively.
