Fiona Mangan rode the Tour de France last year and now the former Irish road race and TT champion has been selected to compete in the big one again, for Mayenne Monbana My Pie.
The Limerick woman has flown a little under the radar in recent months, but has still put in very solid performances, including 13th at La Périgord Ladies (1.1) and 10th at La Picto en Nouvelle-Aquitaine (1.1), both in France the weekend before last.
Last year, on debut at the Tour, she expressed some disappointment that her form was not where she want it to be, adding it was sometimes hard to get the timing just rider.
She still went on the attack for 100km of the 160km stage 7 from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambéry, alongside riders like former world champion Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx – Protime) and two-time Tour stage winner, Maeva Squiban (UAE Team L’IMAD).
This time around, Mangan will be absolutely determined to find her legs and show what she can do in the world’s biggest race.
Mia Griffin (Picnic PostNL) is also expected to ride the race, after her debut last season in the Irish champion’s jersey.
