Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific has informed the Government of potential job cuts at its Irish operation.
Last week, the company’s board approved a global restructuring plan aimed at cutting costs which it said would lead to some job losses.
It is not yet known how many roles are at risk in Ireland but the Department of Enterprise has confirmed that it received a collective redundancy notification from Boston Scientific on 22 July.
Such notifications are required in cases of 30 or more potential job losses.
Boston Scientific has been operating in Ireland for the last 30 years, with over 7,000 employees across sites in Galway, Cork and Clonmel.
The company said its current restructuring programme “includes enhancing operational and functional capabilities as well as global supply chain network optimisation”.
“In general, we do not break out programme details by business, region or function,” a spokesperson said.
“Ireland has been an important part of Boston Scientific’s global organisation for more than 30 years. We are committed to our long-term future in the country and recognise the significant contributions our employees in Ireland make across our global business,” the company added.
