Planned strike action by SIPTU members working in a centre that is part of the St John of God group has been called off following progress at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

The dispute over pay and grading involves household staff at St Joseph’s Centre, a dementia care home in Shankill, Dublin.

“As a result of constructive engagement between the parties, a set of proposals has been put forward to address a dispute involving the pay rates of household staff,” SIPTU said in a statement.

“As a result of the progress made, planned strike action for this week has been called off to allow SIPTU members to ballot on the proposals,” the union added.

St Joseph’s Centre welcomed the development.

“Both parties have agreed to remain committed to maintaining a constructive working relationship into the future,” the centre said.
