It’s a very busy August Bank Holiday weekend across Kerry, with events taking place all over the county.
Among the highlights of the weekend’s activities are concerts, agricultural shows, and competitive oyster-eating.
Tonight is the start of the 29th annual Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival, which runs until Monday with headliners Clíona Hagan, Big Sleep, and Kíla across the Bank Holiday weekend.
Tonight also sees the start of the 33rd Sean McCarthy Memorial Weekend Festival in Finuge, which honours the renowned songwriter and balladeer; that festival has concerts, as well as ballad and storytelling competitions.
The 33rd annual Ballylongford Oyster Festival also gets underway tonight, with events across the weekend including the seafood banquet, the oyster-swallowing contest, barman’s race, and welly-drag racing.
The Dan Paddy Andy Festival returns to Lyreacrompane this weekend, kicking off tonight with a strong programme of live music and heritage until Monday; there will also be tractors and Honda 50s runs, as well as a bog walk and a 10k run or walk.
The Castlegregory Agricultural Show takes place on Saturday at the Billy Bowler Memorial Showground, and then the 40th Kilgarvan Agricultural Show takes place on Sunday.
The Banna Run 5k and 10k road race takes place on Sunday in Banna, hosted by St Brendan’s Athletics Club.
St Brendan’s Hurling Club in Ardfert will be in action in the Garveys County Senior Hurling Championship final against Abbeydorney also on Sunday at Austin Stack Park at 2pm, preceded by the minor county final between Ballyduff and Ballyheigue at 11:45.
All eyes then turn to Croke Park, where the Kerry Ladies take on Galway in the All-Ireland Football Final, with throw-in at 4:15pm.
