Conditions are to take a wet turn over the coming days
Rain is on the way
A major weather change is on the cards as the long-running spell of dry weather is set to come to an abrupt end.
While temperatures will remain quite high, most of the country looks like it will be in for a wet couple of days as an unsettled period impacts Ireland.
Irish weather expert Alan O’Reilly, who mans the @CarlowWeather account on X, explained what to expect over the coming days.
He posted: “Cloud and rain returns for tomorrow and Monday, you might want to find a raincoat.
“It has been a while since we needed one, unless you are in the West or North.”
As summer draws to a close, Sunday August 2 is set to be a mainly cloudy day as outbreaks of rain and drizzle continue to extend northeastwards throughout the day.
The rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the southwest and west, with parts of the southeast and east remaining mostly dry. Temperatures will range between 15C and 20C, with the west experiencing the coolest temperatures.
Monday will also be a cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing to affect many areas. It will be quite humid with temperatures reaching potential highs of 23C.
That trend looks likely to continue into next week as unsettled conditions dominate.
A spokesperson for Met Eireann said: “Continuing unsettled for the rest of the bank holiday weekend and into next week. Humid and cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at first, followed by showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
