People are dumping flowers at the wall of a North Kerry cemetery because they think it’s bad luck to take things from a graveyard.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Michael Foley, who was speaking at the recent Listowel Municipal District meeting.
Both he, and Sinn Féin councillor Tom Barry raised the lack of waste bins at Gale Cemetery to the local authority.
They said people visiting the graveyard often want to remove old flowers and waste from the cemetery, but can’t as there is no bins there.
The council responded that its policy is not to place bins at individual burial grounds in the county.
It encouraged all burial ground users to remove their flowers and waste from graveyards, and advised there are signs stating this at Gale Cemetery.
