Members of the Bundoran RNLI rescued a swimmer in difficulty off the coast of Tullan Strand.
Their lifeboat was tasked to the scene at 9:17pm yesterday evening by the Coast Guard, after reports that three swimmers were in difficulty.
The inshore lifeboat, helmed by Richard Gillespie with crew members Finn Mullen and Oisin Cassidy, recovered one casualty who had made their way onto a grouping of rocks.
They were brought back to the Bundoran Lifeboat station, where they receieved medical treatment from the RNLI’s Local Medical Adviser and a local paramedic.
The two other swimmers in difficulty were able to make their way safely ashore, one of which was helped from the water by a local surf instructor from Bundoran Surf.
One of the swimmers was then airlifted to hospital by the Rescue 118 helicopter for further treatment.
Earlier on Saturday, the Bundoran RNLI were tasked to another emergency as they responded to reports of a casualty in the water.
After extensive searches of the area, emergency services were stood down after no casualty was located, but it was determined that the call had been made with good intent.

“Conditions can change very quickly and we would encourage anyone entering the water to be aware of local conditions, never swim alone and always carry a means of calling for help where possible,” he said.
“As we head into a busy period on our beaches, we would urge everyone to read and follow local safety signage and familiarise themselves with the location of rip currents before entering the water. Rip currents can be extremely dangerous and can quickly carry even experienced swimmers away from shore.”
