A series of Irish coins could supposedly “make you a millionaire” – that’s if you check your change now. It’s no secret certain rare coins can be worth a substantial amount of money without you even realising.
Just recently, a Euro coin’s value was “skyrocketing” by 5 times in just one week alone. Depending on the condition, mintage or whether there’s an error, these coins could be worth so much more than face value. Now one collector revealed the four coins which could make you a lot of money – and might be hiding away in your attic or kitchen.
Detailing the four Irish coins, the @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 271,100 followers, began: “Irish coins that could make you a millionaire – wait until you see the third one.”
The first was the 1931 Irish Half coin which was originally part of the Free State 1928 and 1937 coin series. This rare and valuable coin holds a low mintage of 160,000 pieces. It features a hunter horse on the reverse and a traditional harp on the obverse.
In the clip, the expert believes this coin could net you around €600 depending on valuation.

Onto the next coin, this is the 1934 Florin which features a dolphin on the face and a harp on the obverse. The expert added: “If it’s rattling around a drawer or in your kitchen, go get it valued it could be worth almost €750.”
The third was the Irish Half Penny which was based on Celtic style illustrations. It was produced in Ireland at the currency centre in Dublin and if you sell it at the “right place”, it could be around €1,600.
Meanwhile the coin collector ended the video with the 1937 Shilling. He said: “What makes this shilling unique is the silver and a bull on the front will make it distinctive from the other Irish coins.”
He said if you manage to get one on your collection, it’ll be around €2,000.
What To Do If You Find Old Irish Coins In Your Pocket Explained
Firstly, you can check the value before you decide whether you want to exchange or donate it. It’s crucial to check the rarity as certain vintage coins, like the 1980s trial pieces or error coins, are worth loads to collectors.
Also inspect the year and mint marks, then check online collector sites to see if it commands a high price at auction. You can redeem obsolete pre-Euro Irish pound (punt) coins directly through the Central Bank of Ireland by mail or appointment.
Rare Irish coins include key pre-decimal and modern trial rarities like the 1938 Penny, 1943 Florin, and 1985 20p. Values for these scarce pieces range from hundreds to tens of thousands of Euros depending on condition and verified mintage numbers.
