The funeral of Oscar-winning Irish actress Brenda Fricker will take place in Dublin this morning.
The service for the 81-year-old will be held at St Catherine’s Church on Meath Street at 11am, followed by a private burial.
Fricker died on 16 July at Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross.
Born in Dublin in 1945, she had a career that spanned more than six decades across stage and screen, becoming one of Ireland’s most celebrated actors.
She will be lovingly remembered at her funeral mass today by family, close friends and neighbours, both in the Liberties and in Dundrum in Dublin where she had lived, and by her many fans across Ireland and the world.
She made history in 1990 when she became the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Christy Brown’s mother in My Left Foot alongside Daniel Day-Lewis.

She dedicated the award to all the people of Ireland.
She became a familiar face to international audiences through television and film roles including The Field, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, A Time to Kill and Veronica Guerin.
In February this year, she was awarded the Freedom of the City of Dublin, an honour her agent Phil Belfield said she was particularly thrilled and proud of.
Messages of condolence for the star described her as a national treasure whose beautiful heart shone through in every role that she played.
Her funeral mass will be broadcast online and on the RTÉ News channel.
A private burial will follow.
Her funeral notice said she was predeceased by her husband Barry, mother Bina, father Desmond and sister Gráinne.
