Firefighters are tackling a large fire at a car scrapyard in north county Dublin.
The alarm was raised at around 3.20pm this afternoon, when a blaze broke out at the car dismantlers in Wimbletown near Balllyboughal in Fingal.
Eight units of the fire brigade are currently at the scene. This includes five fire engines, a foam tender and two water tankers.
“This will be a protracted incident and we expect to be on scene for the foreseeable future,” Dublin Fire Brigade said.
A senior officer is at the incident and firefighters are asking any residents affected by smoke to close all windows and doors.
Meath fire service also sent one fire engine and water tanker to the incident.
The Dublin Airport Authority said the fire is not currently affecting operations at the airport, which is about 10 kilometres away.
A spokesperson said that AirNav Ireland, which is responsible for air navigation and air traffic control, is advising pilots on approach to be cautious of the plume of smoke, but reiterated that so far, there has been no impact on operations at the airport.
