Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton remains in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital and faces a long recovery, his family has said.
Hilton, 48, was admitted to hospital in Miami on Tuesday following an incident involving self-harm which was livestreamed on TikTok.
In a statement posted on his Perez Hilton website on Saturday, his family said he remains in hospital and will require surgery.
“Perez’s condition remains serious but stable,” the statement said.
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days.
“His treatment and recovery will be a long process.
“We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
His family said his communication has been “extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care”.
It added that Hilton “has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements” and said his website was the only place where “credible and authorised” updates would be published.
“As our family remains focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation,” the statement said.
Hilton’s family and team previously described the situation as an “incredibly difficult” and “heartbreaking” time.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday that deputies had responded to reports of a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm”, but did not identify him.
Authorities said the man was alone in the house at the time.
Hilton’s TikTok account was subsequently suspended.
Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr in Miami, Hilton rose to prominence in the 2000s through his celebrity gossip website PerezHilton.com.
His pseudonym is a play on the name of socialite Paris Hilton, who was one of the most prominent celebrities of the period.
His provocative coverage of celebrities drew widespread criticism, including over his practice of publicly identifying people he claimed were gay.
Hilton later became a television personality, appearing on programmes including Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother.
He has three children, a son and two daughters, who were born via surrogate.
