Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle faces the terrifying prospect that she could go down for murder next week, as she continues to take the rap for killing Dr Todd.
With newcomer DS Ramsden closing in, Charity is determined to protect her granddaughter Sarah from a life sentence at any cost. But as the pressure mounts, can she keep up the lie?

“Charity will go to any lengths to save Sarah,” explains our Emmerdale insider. “Not only does she blame herself for bringing Dr Todd and her blackmail into their lives, but she carries the guilt of lying to Sarah about baby Leyla every day. She sees this as the ultimate act of love and repentance…”
In next week’s scenes, Sarah is beside herself with worry – and it doesn’t go unnoticed by her concerned husband Jacob.
“Jacob is left disturbed by Dr Todd’s death,” explains our source. “He was the first to encounter her cruel ways at the hospital, and now he’s left reeling after hearing that his wife was at the scene of her demise. But the more questions he asks Sarah, the more she’s struggling to cope.”
Seeing the state his wife is in following his probing, Jacob promises Sarah he won’t ask any more questions about Todd or the moments leading up to Charity supposedly killing her. Sarah’s grateful that he’s backing off, but she can’t escape her inner turmoil over leaving her husband in the dark.
Meanwhile, Charity catches up with Serena Sugden to discuss her chances of getting away with a self-defence plea. But just as they get to the heart of the matter, they’re interrupted by DS Ramsden.

The detective wants more answers from Charity, particularly as the detective knows the full history between the landlady and Dr Todd and is suspicious of Charity’s involvement. Will Charity be able to maintain her lie in the face of further scrutiny?
“Serena’s support really bolsters Charity,” points out our spy. “She’s never been able to rely on an ex-copper like this before, and Serena showed her empathy when she needed it the most. Now Charity needs all the help she can get to avoid a long prison sentence. But is Serena’s professional guidance enough?”
With DS Ramsden hovering nearby and piling pressure on both Charity and Sarah, the stakes couldn’t be higher as they reaffirm their pact to stick to their story.
Given Charity’s previous complaints to the police about Todd sexually assaulting and blackmailing her, will her story of self-defence and Sarah’s witness testimony be enough to convince detectives?

As Charity’s pulled in for further questioning, she maintains her false confession. However, as emotions take their toll, will she be able to hold her nerve and cover up her granddaughter’s crime? Or will their false version of events begin to unravel?
With Charity still carrying an even bigger lie – one that would surely rip her family apart – she knows she needs to maintain her composure for Sarah’s sake. But is this one lie too many that’s set to finally bring her house of cards tumbling down?
