When the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon 1969 launched, it appeared to be a novelty that transcended the MoonSwatch fatigue some had exhibited in the wake of very niche, region-specific, and rather high-frequency MoonSwatch launches in which only a small detail or two was changed. But for better or for worse, depending on your perspective, Swatch has found another solid, space-themed reason to release a new MoonSwatch. The cosmos has obliged, and not very long after the recent Mission to the Moon 1969. Timed to coincide with a solar eclipse casting its shadow across parts of Spain this August, the latest MoonSwatch is the Mission to the Sun – Solar Eclipse.
It’s a limited drop built around one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles, and characteristically, Swatch has found the right details to attempt to make it feel earned and as low-gimmick as possible. And considering it will only be sold on August 12 in Spain, it is more making a memory and marking a moment than a cash grab to be fair.
For the most part, it looks like the original Mission to the Sun, but the headline change is a black Bioceramic pusher at 2 o’clock — a subtle but effective design decision that nods to the darkening of the sun during totality.
Rounding out the celestial references, the battery cover features a New Moon motif, a knowing wink to the lunar phase that makes every solar eclipse possible in the first place. Beyond the eclipse-specific touches, this is still every bit a MoonSwatch. Swatch’s patented Bioceramic construction, the asymmetrical case, the tachymeter scale with that iconic dot over 90, they’re all present and correct.
The Omega x Swatch co-branding sits on the dial and crown, and the mission statement is engraved on the caseback, just as you’d expect. The availability situation is deliberately tight.
The Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Sun – Solar Eclipse is a Spain-exclusive, dropping August 12, 2026 (for one day only) via the Spanish website, select Swatch stores in Bilbao, Ibiza, and Valencia, and through the in-store digital catalogue across Spain. There’s also a Rolling Planet activation travelling through León with stops throughout the day. If you’re in Spain and the eclipse doesn’t move you, this might.
