Sinn Féin spokesperson on Finance, Pearse DohertyTD, has said ‘bumper profits’ announced by the state’s largest landlord ‘expose the real motive behind the government rent hike earlier this year.’

The Donegal TD said the government plan is working ‘exactly as intended, delivering more and more for those profiting from the housing crisis.’

Teachta Doherty said: “The largest landlord in the state tripled its profit in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, exposing the real motivation behind the government rent hike earlier this year.

“The government legislated to give these corporate landlords the power to increase rents despite rents already being completely unaffordable for most people.

“The CEO announcing the bumper profits highlighted the government rent hike bill as ‘significant’ and directly attributes the increase in revenue to being allowed by the government to hike rents.

“Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the independents are making the housing crisis worse for the vast majority of people while making sure investors and developers see larger and larger profits.

“If rip-off rents were the solution, this government would have already solved the housing crisis.
