Update 12.02pm: Train services have resumed following a tragic incident on the line between Thurles and Limerick Junction earlier this morning.
The first services that are operating in full is the 11am Heuston to Cork train which is delayed by 10 minutes and the 11.25am Cork to Heuston train which is delayed by 14 minutes.
Earlier: Cork-Dublin trains are currently not running between Thurles and Limerick Junction due to a tragic incident on the line, but bus transfers have been arranged.
Iarnród Éireann said just after 8am this morning that all services were suspended between Thurles and Limerick Junction, the route the Cork Kent to Dublin Heuston line travels, until further notice due to “a serious incident being attended by emergency services”.
They have shared multiple updates since, saying that services remain suspended during the two stations due to “a tragic incident on the line”, and will be until further notice.
An Iarnród Éireann spokesperson told The Echo that there was a tragic incident involving the 07:45hrs Thurles to Limerick train service, “in which a person on the line was struck and fatally injured near Dundrum, Co Tipperary”.
Just before 10am, the rail company said that bus transfers have been arranged between Thurles and Limerick Junction, which will allow travel between Cork and Dublin to resume, however they added that delays of up to or more than 60 minutes are expected.
The spokesperson confirmed that all services between Dublin and Cork, Kerry and Limerick were affected and said that the line is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.
“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience and understanding in these very sad circumstances.”
