An Achill GP is to launch a book this Friday, with a collection of stories connecting rural life and healthcare on Ireland’s westernmost islands with community health and development in rural Kenya.
Dr. Noreen Lineen Curtis has worked in general practice on Achill, Mayo’s offshore islands and Kenya.
The book, ‘Rural eye – 10 Years of Scribbling’, brings together stories Dr. Curtis has written over a ten-year period for ‘Forum’, the official publication of the Irish Colleges of GPs.
Interspersed between Noreen’s stories are chapters describing the work of Brighter Communities Worldwide in the rural communities of Kericho County, Kenya.
The organisation partners with communities in East Africa to deliver health, education and economic development programmes.
All proceeds from the book will be dedicated to this charity.
The launch takes place at The Beehive on Achill Island this Friday at 7:00pm.
