After a long summer of speculation, it seems as though Troy Parrott is finally about to get his transfer from AZ Alkmaar as he edges closer to a move to Real Betis.
It has been assumed that the Ireland star would move on from the Dutch club this summer, with the player himself admitting he was looking to take the next step in his career. He would go on to be linked with a number of clubs in Europe and the UK, although there had been little in terms of concrete developments.
That all changed with West Ham’s push to sign the player earlier this month, having had a £15million bid rejected.
Real Betis would eventually play their hand and now look to be on the verge of sealing a €20million agreement for Troy Parrott according to a number of sources.
That fee seems rather low, especially when AZ Alkmaar had been said to be seeking up to €30million for the player. An update from Spain may give some insight into how the deal materlised.
Troy Parrott pushed hard for Real Betis move
Troy Parrott’s rumoured move to West Ham drew a fairly underwhelming reaction from Ireland supporters, many of whom were baffled to see the player linked with a move to the Championship. In contrast, the switch to Champions League club Real Betis has led to quite a bit of excitement.

It seems as though the player himself held a similar opinion.
Seville based media outlet Diario de Sevilla is reporting that Troy Parrott’s insistence on moving to Real Betis in order to play Champions League football was a driving factor in AZ Alkmaar lowering their original asking price for the player.
It is said that the free will be worth around €16million, with an additional €3-4million in add-ons. It is reported that Parrott has also agreed to a ‘fairly low salary’ in order to facilitate the move, with Real Betis operating on a tight budget.
The Spanish club are managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pelligrini, who is thought to be the driving factor behind the club’s move for the Irishman.
Troy Parrott set for exciting stint in southern Spain
It seems as though Troy Parrott’s desire to move to Real Betis was the driving factor in AZ Alkmaar lowering their asking price, having rejected a very similar offer from West Ham just a few days prior. That would suggest that the player was not willing to dig on a move to the English club in the same manner.
The La Liga club will return to the Champions League for the first time in two decades next month, having secured a fifth-placed finish in the table last season. They will open their 2026/27 campaign with a home game against Real Sociedad on Friday evening.
While Troy Parrott will not be in the squad for that game, the club will no doubt hope to get the deal wrapped up as soon as possible.
