A man who was arrested in connection with a garda pursuit which resulted in damage to two garda cars was granted consent to bail at a court.
32-year-old Adam Strong of Kilcavan, Geashill, Co Laois was brought before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court this morning.
He is accused of dangerous driving at Killeigh and Ballydownan in Offaly and at Clonaslee and Derryguile in Laois today.
He is further accused of possession of cocaine at Derryguile on the same date.
Gardaí objected to bail due to the seriousness of the alleged offenses.
Solicitor Gerry Maher said his client lived with his parents, was in full-time employment and had been cooperative with gardaí after his arrest.
Judge Michael Connellan granted the man consent to bail on his own bond of €2,000 and an independent surety of €6,500 to be approved within 24 hours by a district court judge.
Bail is subject to a number of conditions including that he remain sober and of good habits, provide a number where he can be contacted, obey a curfew, sign on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Portlaoise Garda Station.
The man was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear again before Portlaoise District Court on 27 August.
