Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee will shoot a new Netflix comedy series JIG in Northern Ireland next year.
The six-part mockumentary is set in the high-stakes world of competitive Irish dancing.
A synopsis for the show JIG says: “Best friends Cara and Fletcher, from the struggling Sweeney School of Dance in Derry, take on their sworn rivals in Florida, a slick, sponsored, seemingly unbeatable operation.
“We follow both teams as they journey towards the all-important world championships.
“But who will lift that trophy?”

The six-part series also stars Naomi Scott, Josh Finan, Imelda Staunton, Toby Jones and Dominic West. The series is based on a collection of Roald Dahl’s short stories for adults, which goes into production this month in Manchester and across the north of England.
Netflix has also greenlit Jonny Boy, a five-episode prequel from the world of Top Boy with Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning actor Barry Keoghan reprising his role as Jonny.
Jonny Boy will see the Oscar-nominated Dubliner explore the character’s origin story in a five-episode prequel show.
Filming is scheduled to begin in 2027. The series has been written by Belfast-born Ronan Bennett with Ali Abbasi directing.
