A man in his 40s has been arrested following the seizure of €1.6 million worth of cannabis in Co Louth.
Yesterday, Revenue Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), and the Organised Crime Unit of the PSNI seized a total of 119 kg of cannabis with an estimated value of €1,666,000, as part of a joint operation.
Gardaí said a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after a vehicle was stopped in the Dundalk area.
He is being held for questioning in a garda station in Co Louth.
Follow-up searches were carried out in Newtownabbey in Co Antrim as part of the operation.
A further 45kg of cannabis, half a kilogram of cocaine, 22 imitation firearms and £25,000 cash were seized by the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Organised Crime Unit.

A man in his 30s was arrested and is being held by the PSNI.
Gardaí and Revenue said investigations are ongoing.
