A child was rushed to hospital after suffering a serious injury following an incident involving a family pet in Co. Kerry.
The Rescue 115 helicopter was forced to redirect from a training exercise in Dingle to respond to the emergency in the South Kerry area yesterday (Wednesday). They provided assistance to the Iveragh Coast Guard during the callout, and a child had to be treated and bandaged by Rescue 115 paramedics. Gardaí also attended the scene, and the casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The child suffered a serious, but thankfully non-life-threatening injury during an incident involving the family pet. A spokesperson for Iveragh Coast Guard told CorkBeo the injury was “a freak incident”, and both the child and the pet are now in good health.
The crew expressed their gratitude for Rescue 115’s support during the callout on social media. They also praised the kids’ parents for applying first aid after their child was injured, for contacting the emergency services, and for keeping their composure during the “extremely frightening situation.”
A crew spokesperson shared on social media: “Iveragh Coast Guard were called this evening to an incident involving a child who suffered a serious but thankfully non-life-threatening injury involving the family pet.
“For the privacy of the child and family, we won’t go into further details.
“The casualty was treated and bandaged at scene, with Rescue 115 paramedics taking care of the casualty until the HSE Ambulance arrived and took over care and transport to hospital.
“Our local Garda Síochána were also in attendance and assisted at the scene.
“A huge thanks to the Rescue 115 crew, who were just beginning a training mission when the call came in and quickly diverted from Dingle to assist us.
“Once the HSE Ambulance had taken over, Rescue 115 continued on to complete their training mission.
“Most importantly, well done to the parents who, despite an extremely frightening situation, kept calm, provided the basic first aid correctly and made the all-important call for help.
“We hope the young casualty makes a full and speedy recovery.”
