What started with a roar ended with a squeal.
Madison County Sheriff John Beeman confirmed the Indiana State Police found pigs during a hunt for two roaming lions.
On Aug. 27, a resident reported seeing a lioness and her cub strolling southwest across his property in the 10000 block of South County Road 50 West. Police searched the the area on foot and with drones for four hours. Authorities found no evidence of the cats, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook at around 4 p.m that day.
The post didn’t reference pigs, but Beeman later told IndyStar that’s what the department had found instead.
“At this point we only have the original caller having reported the lions,” Beeman said in an emailed statement on Aug. 28. “We are asking the public to beware of their surroundings and if they see anything to call 911.”
According to the 911 caller, the spotted lioness weighed approximately 300 pounds and was last seen wearing a blue harness. Her cub looked to be about 100 or 150 pounds, the caller said.
