Gardaí are investigating after a grave was destroyed in Craughwell overnight.
The damage was caused to a significantly built up grave at Ballymore Cemetery in Craughwell between sometime last night and into this morning.
In a brief statement, Gardaí confirmed they’re aware of the incident and said: “Gardaí received a report of damage at a graveyard in Craughwell, Co Galway overnight on Thursday 27th August into Friday 28th August 2026. Investigations ongoing.”
According to posts from family on social media, the damage happened just 24 hours after it was erected and blessed – with photos showing the perpetrators appear to have gone to considerable efforts to completely smash the monuments adorning the grave.
It’s understood the grave is for a relatively young man who died unexpectedly last year.
