Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick enjoyed victory in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium on Saturday as his University of North Carolina side defeated Texas Christian University 15-10.
Belichick is an eight-time Super Bowl winner – six times as head coach – and his presence in Dublin sprinkled some star dust on this year’s college football fixture on Irish soil.
It was a slog on the field, but Belichick will have been pleased by his team’s mean defensive performance.
The TCU ‘Horned Frogs’ didn’t register a score in the final 49 minutes.
North Carolina got on the scoreboard first when Aeron Burrell nailed a 20-yard field goal; Kyle Lemmermann responding in kind for TCU to tie the scores at 3-3.

Jon Denman’s touchdown nudged the Horned Frogs into a 10-3 lead but that was wiped out when Jaylen McGill got in for North Carolina.
The only points registered in the second quarter went to North Carolina for a safety, with Burrell’s third-quarter field goal – coupled with a tough, disciplined defence – ensuring Belichick left Dublin a happy man.
