Beyoncé is celebrating her birthday with a major milestone from her music career. On September 4, the singer marked 20 years of her second studio album, B’Day, with a newly remastered 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Originally released on September 4, 2006, the album has now returned with remastered music and visuals, Spanish-language recordings, previously released bonus material and several rare or previously unheard tracks.
The expanded release also brings together some notable collaborations such as new material featuring Pharrell and Maluma, along with a Spanish recording featuring vocals from the late Selena Quintanilla.
Beyoncé On 20 Years Of B’Day
B’Day arrived during an important period in Beyoncé’s career and included songs such as Déjà Vu, Get Me Bodied, Irreplaceable, Ring the Alarm and Listen. Two decades later, the singer has revisited the album and its original sound while preparing the expanded anniversary release.

Speaking in a press release shared with Variety, Beyoncé explained what she wanted to achieve when she was making the album.
“I wanted the album to be big, percussive, hard, up-tempo, and energized, and it was important to me that we used live instrumentation,” she said.
“Hip-hop was taking over at the time, but I was fighting to preserve the bridges, melodies, and harmonies that have always been at the heart of R&B. The goal was to blend those two worlds through the art of sampling. I loved the minimalism of a beautiful vocal arrangement over a simple drum loop or a classic guitar like ‘Irreplaceable’…but only if that 808 was banging underneath,” she added.
What Is Included In Beyoncé’s B’Day 20th Anniversary Edition?
For the anniversary release, Beyoncé has remastered the album’s music and videos. The accompanying visuals have also been recoloured and completed in 4K. A revamped version of the Déjà Vu video featuring Jay-Z has also been released alongside the anniversary edition.
The digital deluxe version expands the original tracklist considerably by bringing the total to 31 tracks. Alongside the familiar B’Day songs, the collection includes rare recordings, Spanish versions, remixes and collaborations.
Which New Songs Are On B’Day Anniversary Edition?
Among the previously unheard material is Can I Watch You which features Pharrell. The track was produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell. The collection also features Morning Dew (Donk), My First Time, Lost Yo Mind, Creole and Back Up.
Another new addition is Cuerpo (Tumbao) that features Colombian singer Maluma. The song marks Beyoncé’s first collaboration with Maluma and samples Celia Cruz’s La Negra Tiene Tumbao. The release notes that Beyoncé has long admired Cruz and her connection to African culture.
The track was produced by Beyoncé, Edgar Barrera and Casta, with Ali “Ali Ali” Alvarez serving as co-producer.
How Is Selena Quintanilla Featured On Beyoncé’s New Release?
One of the most notable additions to the anniversary edition is Irreemplazable (Como La Flor) that features previously released vocals from the late Selena Quintanilla.
Selena’s estate approved the duet that allowed her vocals to be incorporated into the new recording, as per Variety. Beyoncé has previously spoken about her admiration for Selena, who was also from Texas.
The release notes that Beyoncé remembers listening to Selena on the radio while growing up in Houston. Selena’s music also influenced Beyoncé’s decision to record her Spanish-language EP Irreemplazable in 2007.
