Maura Higgins will be reunited with her former The Traitors co-star Mark Ballas after the pair were matched for the new season of Dancing with the Stars in the US.

The Longford television personality will dance with three-time Mirrorball champion Ballas when the ABC competition returns later this month.

Higgins and the professional dancer already know each other well after appearing together on the fourth season of The Traitors US earlier this year.

The pair formed a close friendship during their time in the Scottish castle, with Higgins later revealing that their shared love of dancing had been part of their off-screen bond.

“Me and Mark were dancing all the time,” she told Elle earlier this year. “Even my whole friendship with Mark, none of it was aired. I still am so close with Mark.”

Higgins had already been confirmed as one of the first celebrities taking part in season 35 of Dancing with the Stars, but her professional partner was kept under wraps until the full cast was unveiled on Good Morning America on Wednesday.

Ballas is one of the show’s most successful professional dancers, having won the competition three times. He also recently served as a judge alongside his mother, Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas, on spin-off series Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.

Higgins, who finished runner-up on The Traitors US earlier this year, previously competed on Dancing on Ice in 2020 and has spoken of doing Irish dancing as a child.

She will compete alongside a line-up that includes Julia Stiles, Jenna Dewan, Harry Shum Jr, Tatyana Ali, chef Giada De Laurentiis and Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn.

Dancing with the Stars begins with a two-night premiere in the US on 15 and 16 September.
