Over €11 million worth of cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Port.
The 12 million smuggled cigarettes branded ‘The King’ were detected by Revenue officers following routine risk profiling.
They were discovered in a consignment declared as mattresses after a trailer, which arrived on a vessel from Rotterdam, had been searched.
Revenue said the estimated value of the cigarettes is over €11.3m, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €8.9m.
The seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
