Ireland has a new millionaire after one lucky Lotto player bagged a life-changing seven-figure prize in Saturday night’s draw.
Last night’s Lotto draw marked the start of a new era for the National Lottery.
Saturday’s Lotto and Lotto Plus games marked the first draw since the official retirement of Lotto balls 46 and 47, with the National Lottery celebrating the first draw of the refreshed Lotto format with a special Guaranteed Millionaire event.
The Lotto Plus Raffle typically sees between 60 and 120 winners of €500 in every draw but for Saturday’s draw (September 5), the National Lottery added a guaranteed-to-be-won €1 million to the Lotto Plus Raffle prize fund.
Every ticket, which includes Plus, that won a prize on either of the Lotto Plus One or Lotto Plus Two draws on Saturday night was in with a chance of winning the life-changing additional prize.
One ticket was then be selected to win a guaranteed €1 million, in addition to their original prize amount.

The National Lottery has now revealed that the special Lotto Plus top-up prize of €1 million was won by a lucky player in Co Clare, who purchased their winning ticket at Spar in Lisdoonvarna.
Shop owner Megan White was delighted to hear about the win, especially with it coming at such an important time of year for Lisdoonvarna: “What a weekend to become a Lisdoonvarna Lotto winner!
“It’s the first week of the famous match-making festival which the entire community gets involved with.
“There’s a great buzz already amongst the town as the festivities get underway, both with customers and surrounding businesses, and this news is sure to add even more.
“We wish the winner all the very best with their win and hopefully they check their ticket soon!”
The Clare ticketholder wasn’t the only player to win big in Saturday’s draw, as two punters in in Kilkenny and Limerick matched five numbers plus the bonus in the main Lotto to win €40,215 each.
Lotto chiefs have confirmed the winning Quick Pick tickets were both purchased on the day of the draw.
The Kilkenny winner scooped their €40,215 amount after purchasing their ticket at M&A Supermarkets on the Main Street in Mooncoin. The Limerick Match 5+Bonus winner purchased their ticket at SuperValu Limerick in the Castletroy Shopping Centre in Castletroy.
The numbers called in Saturday’s main Lotto draw were 8, 11, 15, 21, 33, 44 and the Bonus number was 14.
And that’s not all, as a further 43 players won special top-up prizes of €10,092 each.
Lotto bosses are now urging all players, particularly those in the Lisdoonvarna area, to carefully check their tickets today. The special Lotto Plus top-up prize winner should sign the back of their ticket and keep it safe.
They should contact the National Lottery Prize Claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to collect their prize at Lottery Headquarters.
National Lottery spokesperson Sarah Orr said: “Saturday night was a landmark moment for Lotto as the game’s new changes officially came into play.
“And with the world-famous Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival underway, one Clare player found the perfect pairing, becoming our newest Lotto Plus millionaire in a special Guaranteed Millionaire draw.
“We’re urging anyone who purchased a Lotto Plus ticket on the day of the draw at Spar Lisdoonvarna in Co. Clare to check it carefully, as an incredible €1 million prize is waiting to be claimed.
“The celebrations didn’t stop there, with 43 Lotto Plus players nationwide also winning additional prizes of €10,092 each.
“And that’s still not all. Two Lotto players in Kilkenny and Limerick each landed €40,215 after matching five numbers and the bonus in the main draw.”
