ITV has announced a new I’m a Celebrity… spin-off that will be filmed in Canada.
Titled I’m a Celebrity… The Wild Frontier, the series will feature a new format.
Set in the “rugged wilderness of Canada” as teased by the broadcaster, the show will launch in 2027.
It will be hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly and will feature a twist – celebrities competing in pairs.
McPartlin has teased that the new series will feature “lots of twists and surprises”.
His co-host added: “We’re also making sure to retain some of the elements that we know viewers love from the Australian series. Buckle up, it’s going to be brilliant.”
In a teaser trailer for the series, the pair stand in front of a mountain in a forest before asking viewers to guess where they are.
“No, it’s not Centre Parcs… we’re in Canada,” McPartlin says.
After explaining how they are set to film a new I’m a Celebrity spin-off, his co-host adds: “It’s a brand-new show with an exciting new format, loads of new trials and challenges, and we cannot wait to bring it to you.”
McPartlin then reveals the “twist” about the campmates competing in pairs.
“They better be ready, because out here in the Canadian wilderness, danger lurks around every corner. One word – bears!” he adds.
Donnelly then confirms I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will still go ahead as normal, and they will “see you back in Australia later in the year”.
Set in Canada, I’m a Celebrity… The Wild Frontier will feature celebrities competing as pairs alongside relatives, loved ones, or even fellow celebrities.
ITV has said pairings could include two celebrities together, a celebrity and a family member, or a celebrity and their best friend.
The pairs will eat, compete, and be eliminated together as one.
ITV also teased: “Viewers will see the pairings undertake gruelling trials in the beautiful and unknown Canadian landscape and take on action-packed challenges to win food, all aiming to become the last pair standing.”
Explaining the format, the broadcaster said that “after weeks of shocks and survival in the Canadian wilderness, viewers will have the power to decide which duo is crowned the overall winners”.
“Viewers will be able to have their say and cast the final vote in a live grand final broadcast direct from London,” it added.
ITV Director of Entertainment, Reality, and Daytime Katie Rawcliffe said the spin-off’s format “takes duos to the most spectacular locations in Canada” where they will “enter, play, and leave” as a pair.
“With all the brilliant DNA of I’m a Celebrity, brand new gameplay, and the dynamics of living and playing with your spouse, best mate or sibling, it promises to be a treat for audiences in 2027,” she added.
I’m a Celebrity… Unpacked will also return to ITV2, airing directly after each main episode on ITV1.
I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has been running since 2002, with past winners including Kerry Katona, Matt Willis, Stacey Solomon, Vicky Pattison, Giovanna Fletcher, Jill Scott, and Sam Thompson.
It has been filmed in Australia for all but two seasons, when it was filmed at Gwrych Castle in Conwy County Borough, Wales, in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic.
