EastEnders spoilers follow for Wednesday’s episode (9 September), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
EastEnders has aired two huge twists involving Cindy Beale and Max Branning following yesterday’s big cliffhanger. Last night’s (8 September) episode saw Max suffer a heart attack on his wedding day, just as he was about to confess his lies to new wife Cindy.
Following on from the events, tonight’s episode begins with Max being rushed to hospital after gaining consciousness. While the family wait outside, Cindy brings up the fact that Max had said that he hadn’t been “honest” before he collapsed.

The others brush off her worries, and they are later able to visit Max. After joshing around, most of the family leave, though Max insists that his new wife stay despite her suggesting he needs to rest.
Now alone, Max tries to speak as Cindy gets increasingly skittish, and she tries to leave. However, he admits that he “can’t be in this relationship anymore” and that he had “made a mistake”.
“I don’t love you Cindy like I should, I’m sorry,” he confesses, suggesting with the collapse that his “heart has finally told [his] brain to listen”.
After he declares it is over between them, a distraught Cindy gets up to leave, though she turns around and realises there is “someone else” that has his attention, demanding to know who.
Max lies that there isn’t anyone, though the stress of the moment increases his heart rate and sets off the monitor, with Cindy leaving when the doctors come in to attend to Max.
Later on, Linda visits Max as he reveals that he ended things with Cindy. He then declares his love for Linda, even if it “ain’t going to happen” between them, though she quickly interjects and confesses that she loves him too “even after” everything that had happened.

Following that twist, another comes when Cindy returns home, breaking down in tears on the Square as Jean rushes over to support her, declaring: “If those tears are for Max Branning, he’s not worth it!”
“I know he isn’t,” Cindy responds, before Jean accidentally blurts out: “I told Priya exactly the same, not that she listened.”
Realising what she has confessed, Cindy demands to know if Max has been having an affair with Priya, which Jean reluctantly confirms. Cindy then breaks down further in distress, but will she confront Priya?
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
