Irish folk trio Amble have hit the top of the Official Irish Singles Chart with The Swell, their first number one single.
The new chart sees the end an eleven-week consecutive run at the top for Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s Rein Me In, which was 18 weeks at No 1 in total, equalling Bill Whelan’s Riverdance for most weeks at No 1 in the chart’s history.
The Swell, which premiered live at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry last June, is from the trio’s forthcoming second album Love and All Its Wares, due out next January. The track has now been certified platinum, meaning it has reached 15,000 units in combined sales and streaming equivalents.
Recorded over three weeks at Grouse Lodge Recording Studios in Westmeath last April, Love and All Its Wares was produced by Philip Weinrobe, known for his work with Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief, Tomberlin and Theo Katzman.
Amble – Leitrim’s Robbie Cunningham (vocals/guitar), Longford’s Ross McNerney (mandolin/bouzouki/banjo) and Sligo’s Oisín McCaffrey (guitar/vocals) – formed in 2022 after the three quit their day jobs.

Their debut LP Reverie was released in May 2025 and topped the Irish charts on release, becoming the most-streamed Irish album of that year, and has not left the Albums Chart top 10 since release, and is currently sitting at No 3.
The trio went on to win the RTÉ Choice Music Prize awards for Single of the Year for Schoolyard Days and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The band closed 2025 with three sold-out nights at Dublin’s 3Arena.
This year they played a mainstage headline slot at Electric Picnic, a debut at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, the main stage at Bonnaroo in Tennessee, and stadium dates supporting Ed Sheeran and Dermot Kennedy.
They undertake a seven-date UK headline tour later this month, followed by a 19-date North American run from 22 October, with nine of those dates sold out.
