The first weekend of October should be a special treat for fans of top class music as the Django Sur Lennon Gypsy Jazz Festival returns to Letterkenny’s RCC for concerts taking place on Friday the 2nd and Saturday, 3rd of October.
Friday’s concert features the Giacomo Smith Trio with guest, Hugo Guazbar.
Giacomo Smith is world renowned clarinetist, now based in London. His repertoire is wide and varied and he is a regular on the international jazz scene. He is also a respected classical musician.
Giacomo’s trio is completed by great Mathieu Chatelain on rhythm guitar and the amazingly talented William Brunard on bass. The trio will be joined by Hugo Guezbar, an exciting young talent from France who is undoubtedly destined to be a major star in the world of gypsy jazz and beyond.
Alexandre Cavaliere
Coming to the stage on Saturday, 3rd October is the headline act; the legendary Angelo DeBarre with his trio.
Angelo has been a stalwart and one of the most influential guitarists in the realm of jazz Manouche since its coming to the fore in the 80s. He is a true legend in his genre and this is a wonderful chance to hear a musician of his calibre here in Letterkenny.

The Angelo DeBarre trio will be joined by Belgian virtuoso violinist Alexandre Cavaliére, who brings a fantastic modern interpretation to traditional gypsy jazz.
The festival’s spiritual home will again be Blake’s bar, where the Belfast-based swing band, Belleville will provide the post concert entertainment, a great end to the night , when musicians mingle and jam. An added bonus and not to be missed..!
