Nevada drivers urged to stay alert as animal movement increases in fall

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Wildlife officials are urging Nevada drivers to stay alert as animal movements increase this time of year.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) says that as fall approaches, animals like deer and elk will move between seasonal habitats.

They are especially active around dawn and dusk, and shorter daylight hours mean more drivers will be on the roads during those periods.

Mule deer are common in the Spring Mountains of Southern Nevada and can be found year-round at various elevations. They have also been spotted in parts of Red Rock Canyon.

NDOW recommends slowing down, especially around dawn or dusk; scanning the road for movement and eye shine; and braking safely instead of swerving.

If you see one deer or elk, you should also watch for others nearby, as they often travel in groups.
