Shane Lowry’s Irish Open victory over the weekend was one of the most memorable sporting events to take place in this country in quite some time.

The Offaly man was in scintillating form for much of the four days of play, something that continued on Sunday afternoon. He would card a 63 during the final round to win the tournament by 11 shots, a new record winning margin for this tournament.

It was a massive occasion for Irish golf, with some big names in attendance. US President Donald Trump was the main focus for many, with quite a few familiar sportspeople also in Clare yesterday.

Peter O’Mahony

Peter O’Mahony and Shane Lowry have developed a close friendship in recent years, with the former Munster man in attendance to see his mate win the Irish Open.

The pair would link up in the VIP area soon after.

Cillian O’Connor and Diarmuid O’Connor

Mayo players Cillian O’Connor and Diarmuid O’Connor were also part of the celebrations, performing a rendition of The Green and Red of Mayo with the Offaly man.

Aidan O’Shea and Ryan O’Donoghue

The O’Connor siblings were not the only Mayo stars there on the day.

Ryan O’Donoghue and Aidan O’Shea also met Shane Lowry after his victory.

Sharlene Mawdsley and Mikey Breen

One of the most well-known couple in Irish sport also made their way to Doonbeg for Sunday’s final round of the Irish Open.

Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley and Tipperary hurler Mikey Breen were on site to see Shane Lowry’s victory.

Bundee Aki and Josh Ioane

Having played in the pro-am earlier this week, Bundee Aki returned to Clare for Sunday’s final round.

He was joined by Connacht teammate Josh Ioane in the hospitality section.
