Northern Irish singer Susi Pagel has released her new EP, Worry Dolls, and the single Part Of Me’. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Talking about Part Of Me, she says: “This is a track about never feeling like you fit in anywhere and finding that one person who makes you feel like you do. It’s a powerful song that I wrote at a time where I was feeling lost.”

Speaking about her new EP, she adds: “Bringing these three tracks from our home demos to the studio was an inspiring experience. They’re such emotional songs and being able to bring them to life in such an open way was so liberating for me.
“Being able to release these feelings I have through music means a lot to me, and I hope there’s someone out there that can relate and find comfort in them.”
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Firstly, I started getting into music through the drums because 11-year-old me wanted to be Meg White so badly. Secondly, I played the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Music for Youth Proms with my band last year to 6000 people – which is definitely my proudest achievement! And thirdly, I’ve been writing music since I was nine years old and decided I wanted to be a pop star- but hopefully I’ve gotten a bit better since then…
How would you describe your music?
I’d describe my sound as nostalgic in a sense, I like to reminisce about the 2000s and the kind of pop punk music that was really taking a hold then; but I pair it with modern alternative rock sounds to create something that links y2k familiarity and exciting, fresh, modern music together.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I grew up listening to legends like Avril Lavigne, Evanescence and Paramore, who influence my sound and song structure a lot. I also can’t deny that McFly have hugely inspired me lyrically from a really young age. They’re so good at telling stories through their verses which influenced my earliest songwriting loads and still comes to mind when I’m writing now.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Very fittingly, McFly at Hyde Park in 2012! It was a free gig for the London Olympics and I screamed every single word so loud I couldn’t speak for days. My whole family came – including my 70-year-old nanny. It’s the coolest memory ever.
What was the first record you ever bought?
This is exposing my super random music taste but the first record I bought with my own money was Wretched and Divine by Black Veil Brides. Quite a contrast to McFly but I discovered them through this album in 2013 and they began my eternal emo phase.
What’s your favourite song right now?
I cannot stop listening to Luvcat’s latest EP, I think Vampire at the Beach is my current favourite.
Favourite lyric of all time?
“I plant the kind of kiss that wouldn’t wake a baby, on the self-same face that wouldn’t let me sleep” from Elbow’s Mirrorball.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I think it has to be Matador by Luvcat. I listened to her TikTok demos of that song for MONTHS before it ever came out and I’m still not sick of it two years later.
