PORTLAND (WGME) — NASA’s Space X crew, including Maine native Jessica Meir, spoke from the International Space Station Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for their return to Earth.
The crew has spent months conducting hundreds of experiments that may help people back on Earth, including research on bacteria, IV fluid production and how spaceflight affects blood flow.
Meir, who has been in space since February 13, says while she’s enjoyed her latest adventure in space, she’s excited to return home.
“I think the thing I’m looking forward to most is seeing my three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, of course our loved ones are the things that we miss the most, I’m so looking forward to seeing nature again, feeling the breeze on my face, the wind rustling through the leaves, experiencing all those things we don’t have up here,” Meir said.
We don’t have an exact date for when the astronauts will return.
Meir recently completed her seventh spacewalk. That’s only three behind the all-time NASA record for spacewalks of 10, held by several astronauts including another Maine native, Chris Cassidy.
