GETTING services up and running for patients is now the priority as Ballyhaunis Primary Care Centre approaches completion, Minister of State Alan Dillon has said.
Following representations from Minister Dillon, the HSE has confirmed that practical completion is anticipated in October 2026. Internal finishes, external works and the relocation of an internal ESB sub-meter remain outstanding before the building can be handed over for equipping and commissioning.
Said the minister: “This is encouraging progress for Ballyhaunis and the wider east Mayo community. For families, what matters is being able to walk through the doors and access the care they need closer to home. My focus now is on ensuring the remaining works, equipment installation and service preparations move forward without avoidable delays.
“October is the expected construction completion date. Equipping and commissioning must follow, with services introduced on a phased basis.
“People deserve a clear picture of those next steps and when they can expect to access each service.”
The HSE has advised that equipment procurement is underway, although supplier lead times for some specialist equipment may extend to 12 weeks. The phased introduction of services will depend on equipment installation and the finalisation of ESB meter works.
The centre is expected to accommodate approximately 14 HSE staff, with services including GP care, public health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dental services and community medicine.
Other services, including immunisation, child and family psychology, dietetics, podiatry and integrated care, will be provided on a visiting basis. Social work provision is planned for two days per week through a county-wide post.
Minister Dillon added: “Bringing nursing, therapies and other community services together in Ballyhaunis will be an important improvement in local healthcare. For parents bringing a child to a therapy appointment, or older people attending community services, having care available locally can make a real difference.
“I want to acknowledge Councillor Alma Gallagher for her continued work and support on this project. I will keep pressing the HSE for a clear timetable for the phased opening and confirmation that the staffing and equipment are in place to support it.
“The next milestone must be getting these services working for the people of Ballyhaunis and east Mayo.”
