A man is due in court this morning charged in connection with the assault on Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae.
The man, aged in his 50s, is due to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court at around 10.30am.
Mr Healy-Rae was travelling in his own vehicle on Cork Street in Dublin city at around 4.10pm on Wednesday when he was approached by a man who assaulted him through the window of his car.
Following the assault, the Kerry TD was taken from the road by gardaí who were quickly on the scene.
They took him to Kevin Street Garda Station and an ambulance was called.
He attended St Vincent’s University Hospital for his injuries, and was discharged around 9pm on Wednesday night, having needed stitches for injuries to his face and mouth.
The former minister of state had been in Leinster House earlier and was on his way home when the incident occurred.
Yesterday he said he would “not be deterred” from continuing his work.
