Now that Valve is sending out pre-order invites for the Steam Frame (as of September 17), we’re starting to see more and more resellers trying to make a quick buck on marketplaces such as eBay. It’s not surprising – it also happened with the Steam Controller and Steam Machine, despite Valve’s efforts to minimize scalper bots with strict requirements and randomized invites.

As per usual with the sort of thing, prices vary, but we’ve seen scalpers attempting to sell the new VR headset for $2,000 or more (with the 1TB kit), and 256GB kits are going for as much as $1,750. These are around 54% and 65% higher than MSRP, respectively. Even worse, the Steam Frame might have launched for under $750 if RAM price hikes weren’t a thing.

Scaplers are already listing their Steam Frame reservations on eBay

Confirmed orders started to be listed online just hours after Valve started sending out the first batch of pre-order invites yesterday. If you’re looking to make a change, such listings are a reportable offense on eBay – the marketplace’s policies restrict the sale of queue spots or digital reservations. Users says they’re having success with reports, and some listings are being removed for being an “Intangible item”.

As mentioned before, Valve has put some systems in place to try and deter scalpers from using automated bots to snap up these pre-orders. Like the Steam Machine, the Frame is not sold on a first-come-first-served basis – invites are randomized within batches. On top of that, your Steam account must be “in good standing” with no bans or restrictions, you must have bought at least one item on Steam before April 27, 2026, and there is a limit of one Steam Frame order per household.

Even still, scalpers have evidently managed to get a hold of kits for resale. For reference, the Steam Frame MSRPs are set at $1,059 for the 256GB kit and $1,299 for the 1TB kit. Additional accessories include the Power Supply Unit, Accessory Replacement Kit, and Ergonomic Accessories Kit, for $29, $49, and $59, respecitively (all in USD).
